Visualizing Music through Dance.

Dance or creative movement is one way to "see" or feel music and
experience "flow".

Music can mirror the evanescent nature of life. 'Flow" may be transient, or impermanent, but it keeps coming and going. We can feel this when we are engaged in the act of creating. The Dance of Life...ever flowing...ever impermanent. Music and dance are languages intertwined through the process of rhythm. Which came first? Music?  Dance or  Language? If music was the first to emerge, did it emanate first through the human voice or through the use of percussive instruments (drums, rattles and sticks etc.) or tools? Perhaps early humans tried to emulate animal sounds as the beginning of vocal production. Imitation of animal movements can also be seen in primitive dance through ancient cave drawings. The perfect fifth is a primal  interval of sound found in all cultures. You can find it by placing  your thumb and exactly 5 notes apart on  the white keys of the piano. You can try this at home on any two white piano keys five fingers apart and hear it's effect. If you want to use it on a mix of black and white or just black, count exactly 8 half steps going up counting the first note as one. How does it sound or feel  to you? Empty? Full? Dissonant or consonant or both? Try to match each sound with your voice by saying the sound "bah". Focusing on process and "flow" of creativity versus the final product: What urges us as humans beings to create?  Experimentation, improvisation or "play" like children is a way to finding a set sequence of ideas. In our society, it is not always socially acceptable for us as adults to "play" or move around in public as we did when we were children. If we walked down the street and decided jump up and down with glee or skip around the block...we may get some funny glances at the very least ... Perhaps in other cultures, that is not so much the case. Being closer to and taking time out for nature is another way to get the creative juices flowing.

If you would like to learn more about  how you or your organization can benefit from and become part of the freedom and "flow" of creativity... you can schedule a workshop with me (email)  or call me at 732-977-3050.

My workshops include: PLEASE NOTE: YOU DO NOT NEED to have ANY prior experience in music or dance... Just a willingness and being open to experience "flow"  and the wondrous act of creating.

Learning to play... again....and express ourselves through movement, our voices and music.
